You love the look of your replacement bathtub. Gone are the water stains and soap scum that no amount of scrubbing could eliminate. There are no cracks, scratches or chips, and the material, be it acrylic, porcelain enamel or even natural stone, gleams. Your new bathtub enhances your entire bathroom and could last for decades without losing its looks. How can you maintain it? Here are some ways.
Clean Your Bathtub Every Time You Use It
This may sound strange to some people. Doesn’t the water in the bathtub clean it after you’ve used it? The problem with that is the water is dirty after you’ve had a bath, and some of that dirt and soap are going to stick to the tub. Eventually, a layer of dirt grows and hardens until it’s tough to get rid of.
To wipe away the dirt around the bathtub, use a damp sponge. Blot the water around the rim of the tub and the fixtures, and then rinse with the showerhead. Wipe the fixtures with the sponge, and then use a microfiber cloth to return them to a brilliant shine.
Use a Two-Sided Sponge on Stains
If you eventually see a stain on your new tub, use a cream cleaner and a two-sided sponge to vanquish it. Squirt some cleaner on the rough side of the sponge, rub it into the stain, let it sit for a few minutes, and then rinse. Try to avoid powdered cleansers since they scratch.
Use the Exhaust Fan
After you’ve showered, clean the tub and the fixtures. Then turn on your bathroom’s exhaust fan to prevent any mold growth. If you do see mold around the caulking or anywhere else, spritz it with a fungicide. Make sure to use it regularly to prevent mold.
Fix Leaks Right Away
If you see that the tub’s spigot or showerhead is leaking, call a professional plumber to have it fixed as soon as you can. Leaks can harm the finish of your bathtub over time. This is also true of standing water caused by clogs.
Don’t Forget to Clean Under Bottles and Soap
Your bathtub will probably have places where you can store soap and bottles of body wash or shampoo. Don’t forget to pick these up and clean under them as well.
